The air is thick with smoke from lit pipes and other such instruments. Over the din of the crowd you can hear the clinking of glasses, mugs, tankards, and other drinking containers. Laughter erupts from one corner of the room and seems to ripple across the whole drinking area.

Marten, the aging owner and barkeep catches sight of you and smiles "Come on in! Have a seat..er..find a place to stand. Come see me when yer ready t' order!"

He then returns to his current customer, readying drinks with a speed that's almost superhuman.

Katrina smiled brightly at the barkeep as he welcomed her. The place was fairly full and yet he’d still managed to catch her unassuming entrance into his tavern. He was a sly one apparently. Nodding to show she acknowledged his statement regarding drinks, Katrina stood near the bar itself trying to figure out just what she wanted to drink before the barkeep came back to take her order.

As much as she loved the robust atmospheres that came from a well run tavern, it wasn’t often she found herself able to slip away from the busy guild life to simply enjoy a pint. Today though, she’d managed just that. Dressing in one of her nicer cotton working gowns decided what she needed was to go out and mingle. Not as the Baroness of the Fine Arts Guild, but as Katrina, a woman who wished to do nothing more than to have a relaxing evening out.

Catching the eye of a young man at the bar she gave him a happy smile before continuing her perusal of the room. Truthfully she didn’t expect to see anyone with him she was closely acquainted with, but there might be the odd acquaintance or two. Perhaps one of their patrons? Or even an old colleague from college! One never knew who they might run into.

Kieran pushed the door of the tavern open. The smells of smoke, cooking food, and ale hit him square in the nostrils as the air from inside rushed out from the opening door. He had his traveling cloak pulled tightly around him, hiding the hybrid hardened leather and steel armor he wore. The cloak barely hid the sword he had at his side, but the bar keeper Marten said nothing. He and Kieran had worked out an arrangement - mostly based on money.

Kieran made for the more secluded area of the bar, but noticed it was full. This sale was drawing quite a crowd. So, he moved towards the bar, nearby were Katrina was standing. He pulled the hood from his face, eyes scanning the area. He could feel magical ripples as Casters moved about the establishment, and that put him on edge. Being the leader of an order that had been outlawed for a good amount of time now meant that he could be arrested, or even killed, for being in the open and dressed in Warden armor and weaponry.

He spoke now, to the barkeep, his voice rumbling from his throat. "Keeper, a tankard of your winter ale, if y' please." He said, his accent denoting he was from the areas around Maevan.

By the time the barkeep signaled she had his attention if she wished to place her order, Katrina had come to the conclusion that she was never going to make up her mind; as she didn’t go to the tavern very often Katrina had no idea what was good and what wasn’t. “Surprise me,” She told him with a small shrug.

This was going to come back and bite her she was sure of it. The barkeep could very well give her some bizarre concoction, or, more likely, her taste would not coincide with that of the barkeeps. Oh well, perhaps she might even enjoy the brew. Who knew?

Within a matter of moments, the barkeep was back, sliding her mug of something frothy. Thanking the man, she fished out a few coins for the tab, placing them on them on the counter. She turned her attention back to the mug, Katrina found herself wondering just what it was she had been handed. She was fairly certain the barkeep had given her the name of the drink but she had either been distracted, or just not paying attention. Raising the mug to her face she gave it a sniff as if that would give her some sort of clue as to its identity.

It didn’t.

The only thing left to do was taste it. Moments after taking a sip Katrina’s mouth was filled by a burning sensation. Goodness that was stronger than she had expected. Surprised, she coughed and sputtered a bit in the hope of clearing her throat. No such luck. Perhaps is she took another sip? Figuring why, not Katrina raised the mug to her face one more and took a gulp.

Kieran watched as Marten served the woman, waiting patiently for his mug of ale. He noted that she was likely part of then upper crust due to the way she was clothed. Finally Marten slid a mug of frothy winter ale. Kieran took a sip and smiled as the spiced ale hit the spot. He slid a gold coin across the bar, both for the ale and Marten's silence.

Kieran wondered quietly if the weather would stay calm or if winter would be reluctant to release its icy grasp. He hoped for the former, and sipped his ale again, shifting against the bar.

Katrina had been planning on spending the time it took to finish her drink standing near the bar, but it soon became apparent that it wasn't going to work out. When she'd made her decision she'd failed to take into account that the bar was the pinical of the establishment. All the patrons who wished for a drink, who, lets face it, was just about everyone since they were in a Tavern after all, needed to come up to the bar to place an order or even get a refill. Something that proved to be rather difficult when people like Katrina were standing in the way.

Figuring she'd best see if she could snag a chair or something somewhere Katrina clutched her mug close to her chest in the hopes of not bumping it into the other patrons and splashing her drink all over them. However the same couldn't have been said for herself. Moving away from the bar she'd clipped her shoulder against another one of the patrons.

"So sorry!" She gasped trying to ignore the feel of wet fabric now plastered to her front. She might not have spilt her drink on her fellow tavern goers but she did manage to get a liberal amount down her front. "That was terribly clumsy of me." There were no words to describe how mortified she was. Normally she wasn't this clumsy but there was always a first time for everything. Katrina only hoped the gentleman she bumped into wasn't to terribly offended by her lack of grace.

Kieran noticed as the high-born woman spilled her mug all over her front. He looked around and noticed some of the seedier patrons staring at the wet fabric as it clung to her bosom. He let out a sigh and with a move pulled the cloak from his shoulders, his armor now fully visible, not that he cared. The place was so busy nobody would notice. And he was not wearing full armor of the Wardens, so he hardly stood out.

"M'lady?" He asked over the din of the patrons. "Take this. Might help save y' some embarrassment." He said with a genuine smile. His eyes looked her over as he held the cloak in front of her.
